Lake Brownwood State Park

Lake Brownwood State Park borders Lake Brownwood and is a great spot to plan a full outdoor day. Start with the Nopales Ridge Trail (2.9 miles), the only trail in the park open to biking, or go shorter with Lakeside (0.7) or Council Bluff (0.3) for some gorgeous lake views. On the water, anglers target largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, and catfish, and swimming is allowed in a designated area where a day use pass is $5 per person.

The Brownwood Harvey House

The Brownwood Harvey House is a fun stop in downtown Brownwood when you want to dive into the history of the area a bit. Built in 1914, it’s part of the restored Santa Fe Depot complex. Inside, you can swing through the Brownwood Visitor Center to grab local recommendations and maps, browse the Brownwood Store for Texas gifts and snacks, and check out the upstairs exhibits like the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions. It’s also right across from the Lehnis Railroad Museum, so you can hit both spots in an afternoon.

Skies Over Texas Winery

Skies Over Texas Winery is a family-owned tasting room in Early that pours 100% Texas wines in a space built with reclaimed, repurposed materials. You can do a tasting, order by the glass or bottle, and pair it with their small food menu (pizzas, paninis, and light appetizers). There’s indoor and outdoor seating, so it’s an easy stop after a lake day or before dinner in Brownwood.
